200 Rabbits

Today we reached the 200 rabbit milestone, that’s sadly 200 that we have been unable to save this year and had to turn away, more than we have rehomed in the past 3 years.

The situation with unwanted pets increases year on year, leaving rescue centres full and having to turn away animals. So why do people still shop from breeders and pet shops, fueling the problem?

This year we have had to say no to 495 pets, 200 of these are rabbits. Whilst some people are giving up their pet for very good reason and are upset, the vast majority are not. Of these, many come to us unvaccinated and not neutered. It cost the charity over £100 per rabbit to neuter and vaccinate against VHD1/Myxi and VHD2, that’s before any other treatment.
