Buzzard

We are receiving an increasing number of calls to help grounded birds of prey, this year we have admitted many times more than any time in our history.

Whilst some are admitted due to illnesses or injuries, many at this time arrive due to starvation. We believe the very hot dry summer has caused a decline in small mammals, their food and that’s not helped them prepare for the cold winter months when food is even more scarce.

Currently in our care we have four tawny owls and this buzzard who arrived this week. Two tawnys are in aviaries waiting to be released, this chap will need to be fattened up somewhat before we can release, he is very underweight.

We need more aviaries and as we are receiving an ever increasing number of birds of prey, we particularly require bird of prey specific aviaries, a project for next year to raise the funds and build.

    Meet Harold

Harold was dumped in a field and left to fend for himself. We were called by the land owner. Harold isn’t in fantastic shape and he has certainly been neglected. His hooves were very overgrown, his coat mattered and he has mites. Once he arrived, we trimmed his hooves to stop foot rot, trimmed his…
