These two guys were taking in by us in 2010 and re-homed, unfortunately things didn’t work out and today their back with us.
These two castrated pygmy goats are very friendly and need to be re-homed together. They need a field or large garden, with secure fencing and somewhere to sleep and escape from the sun, wind and rain.
This week we have taken on a further 120 ex-battery hens that would otherwise be slaughtered. The farm in Norfolk where we fetched them from, was emptying their sheds, replacing 20,000 birds with young hens, to keep the egg yield high. We couldn’t rescue all 20,000 hens that are probably only around 18 months old, but…
Over the weekend we dropped off Magic one of our Dartmoor ponies to his beautiful new home. He is now living as a companion pony with a lovely mare called ‘Cariad’. She wasn’t too pleased to be sharing her field at first but we are sure they’ll both be friends soon. Lucky little Magic.
Our volunteers have mixed feelings saying goodbye to Bob and Brenda, two geese that have been with us to seven years now. Geese make great guard dogs, they are territorial and if you’re a stranger, beware of the loud honks and ankle nipping! Generally people are more frightened of geese than they are of dogs….
This young Sparrow Hawk came to us with an injured right wing. Fortunately for this beautiful bird the damage is repairable. The wing is now tied back to allow it to heal, the bird will be kept confined for around 4 weeks before being moved to a large aviary and prepared for release. Update 27 September Today…
Today Bertie was moved to his new, life-long home where he has an acre of land, a girlfriend and a stable to sleep in, a far cry fom the bungelow he came from, living on his own. Bertie met his girlfriend for the first time, he and Poppy, did a bit of speed dating.
