Pigeon

This young Wood Pigeon was been admitted with a huge air pocket, larger than any we have seen. This can often be caused by the rupture of one or more of their internal air sacks, used for breathing. In this case the air pocket was so large, the pressure was affecting his breathing and preventing him from eating. We deflated the air pocket using a hypodermic needle, he’s being tube fed high calorific food to help gain weight and on a course of antibiotics to help with any internal injuries. So far he is doing well, we hope he can be returned to the wild in a week or so.
