A few weeks ago our friends at Brook Farm Animal Sanctuary took in 30 sheep from a gentleman who could no longer care for them. We are helping by taking on 6 ewes, and they have made good friends with our resident ram, Jakey.
The ewes are now all wormed, hooves trimmed and wool sheared, so they are looking for a permanent, life-long home.
On the 27th August, this poor little hedgehog was brought in found by a concerned member of the public. With severe flystrike, a condition where flies lay eggs around the anus for them to hatch out and eat the animal from the inside, as well as being underweight, dehydrated & cold. All the maggots…
In the past few days we got contacted to take in some ponies whose owner had been prosecuted. The owner had over 60 ponies, some pregnant mares, stallions and foals. Yesterday 22 were rescued and we have taken in 2 very young colts.The situation with unwanted ponies, fly grazing and unnecessary breeding in the equine population…
We admitted this cygnet in the week, they were quite weak and found grounded in a housing estate. Its believed they’d crash-landed. Thankfully an examination hasn’t revelled any injuries and they are eating and drinking as well as hissing at us!! We are confident they’ll be released in the coming days.
This guy has a broken wing, he will have to be suspended in a harness for a couple of weeks in a hospital cage. Then we can remove the bandage supporting his wing, he should then be fit enough to be moved to an aviary to start the rehabilitation process before final release. Update 20 September…
