Geese – Rehomed 30 November

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

geeseThey came to us as the previous owner claimed that they had attacked their chickens. However they get on fine with ours and even roost with them at night.

After several months with us, we finally found a great home for our two rescue geese. We’ll miss these two characters, but we are happy that they have a home where they will be cared for and where they can enjoy thwe company of other geese.

Rex Boys – Rehomed 15th November

Friday, November 21st, 2008

These beautiful boys didn’t even make it onto Rabbit Rehome or our own website as they were snapped up rexesstraight away.  The Rex velvety fur is so amazing but care for the rexes is very important as they can easily get sore feet due to their short fur.  These boys found a great home with a tailor made hutch and the moment they went into their new run they binkyed around with such excitement.  We hope that their new owners can tell them apart as we never could.

Two New Pigs Join the Family

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

We have just taken on 2 more Kune Kune pigs from Liverpool. These pigs, Pepper and George kept frightening their owners horse so had to be rehomed.  At only 2 years old they are very lively and full of character.  For those of you who have met Rocky the Kune Kune they are nothing like him, they are much bigger and a lot more agile.

Thanks to Grenville at The Pig Sanctuary in Lincolnshire with his words of advice on pig bonding we have successfully managed to get these new additions living in perfect (well near perfect) harmony with our pot-belly pigs.  The 4 of them have done a grand job of rotovating about a quarter of an acre of field!

If you could offer these loveable pigs a home then give us a ring.

Death Row Dogs Need Homes

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Although we can’t take on dogs ourselves we get E-mails every single day about dogs in pounds on death row.  Thousands of healthy dogs get destroyed every year in the U.K through no fault of their own. If you are thinking of adopting a dog then make sure it is a rescue dog as you will literally be saving a dogs life.  One particular charity -  ‘Doris Banham Dog Rescue’ (www.dogsos.co.uk) set up in order to save dogs on death row but this worthy charity nearly had to close a few weeks ago.  Please don’t buy dogs from breeders or out of the paper when there are so many abandoned and unwanted dogs that need loving homes.  Please also consider older dogs too who very often sit in sanctuaries for months.

Next Hen Rescue Postponed.

Monday, November 10th, 2008

batteryAs many of you know our next ex-battery hen rescue was due to take place on 14th/15th Nov but unfortunately due to the powers that be (supermarkets!!!) this has been postponed until after Christmas. Due to consumer demand of cheap food over Christmas these hens will have to spend Christmas in cages. Fortunately though, we are assured the rescue will happen after Christmas.  The coverage of our recent hen rescue by itv central news meant that we have been inundated with hen homes but if your name is on our list then we will contact you when when we can confirm a rescue date.  Remember that battery hens don’t have a choice but you do! Look out for hidden battery eggs in food too……or better still give up eggs, especially over Christmas when hens naturally want to take a break from laying eggs as the days get shorter. Battery hens are given artificial light during the winter to optimise their egg laying.  No wonder they look so tired when they come into our rescue centre!

Brownie the Rabbit

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Brownie, the wild rabbit we rescued a couple of months ago has made a full recovery. Unfortunately we had to give her a lot of physiotherapy on the leg that she kept dragging behind her and this has made her a very imprinted little rabbit.  For this reason she can never be released back into the wild so she will have to be paired up with a suitable male neutered rabbit and live here with us.  We weren’t sure that she would ever gain the use of her back leg.  Through dragging it, the leg became very sore and furless.  We worried that we may have to amputate the leg entirely.   X-rays (and a £115 vets bill) told us that it wasn’t broken so our vet suggested physiotherapy 3 times a day.  She now uses the leg to its full potential and ‘binkies’ (a rabbit jump) round the room like a grasshopper.brownie

Baby Dwarfs – Rehomed 1 November

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

dwaf-rabbitsThe new owners of these little treasures is over the moon and very happy.  We are so pleased that all 4 of these young boys went to a very special home and remained together.  The little white rabbit in the picture was orphaned  at only a few days old when her mother died.  Fortunately the Netherland Dwarf ‘Primrose’ came to the rescue and managed to bring up the young kit as one of her own.  What a little treasure.
