Greylag Goose Release

We took this greylag in a few weeks ago, today he was released back into the wild where he came from.He was admitted as he had poor use of one leg, he could hardly walk. X-rays revealed an old injury to the good leg, a shotgun pellet embedded in the leg and an old bone injury, though this was not the cause of his current issue. The prognosis was most likely neurological and so he has been on a course of anti-inflammatory painkillers. He has improved, but he’s far from perfect. We often have to make difficult choices, this chap was not going to improve any more in our care, he is not in pain and he does stand a good chance back in the wild and so the choice was made to release and monitor.
