Hedgehogs hate heatwaves!

We are seeing an ever increasing number of animals, particularly hedgehogs, coming to us seriously dehydrated due to the hot dry weather.

This little man was brought to us today very dehydrated and out of cover during daylight, a clear sign that all is not well.

You can help hedgehogs and, in fact, all wild animals by ensuring that there is always a bowl of clean water available for them to drink, ensuring that the bowl is heavy and so won’t tip up, but not too deep so they can’t drown. You can feed hogs on chicken or turkey based cat or dog food, never give them milk or bread.

If you see a hog out in the daytime, something is wrong – they are nocturnal so should be asleep.

Each year we receive dozens of calls from people asking us to  take on their unwanted pet pigs. Unfortunately they buy them from breeders as cute and cudly piglets with little or no advice and no idea of how big they will grow to.
