We have taken in another 4 pygmy goats. These were kept by a breeder, they were bred and the kids sold as pets. They have been given up, probably due to the recession. (more…)

Hoglet Rescue

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

These young hedgehogs or hoglets as they are known, were found wandering in the daytime.  Hedgehogs are nocturnal so a hog out in the daytime is usually a sign that something is wrong.

These two are weaned off their mother but are too small for this time of year. They need to be above 500 grams to survive hibernation, otherwise they will perish. It is likely that these two will have to be kept with us until the spring when we will release them.

We always try to release hogs where they were found, wherever there are hedgehogs there is food.

We rehome our first pig!

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

We get quite frustrated by the usual phone calls about pet pigs, but for once we received a call with a difference. Far too often we get calls from people who have bought piglets from a breeder, then several months later the pig is too large and destructive and they don’t want them any more and they end up at rescue centres like ours,  if only people did their homework!

Before rehoming any animal, we always ensure that the potental adopter is fully aware and capable of taking on the responsibility.

So back to the call, we want to rehome a pig we heard!, well Beth and I were amazed, we have never rehomed a pig yet, a week later and home checked, Penny is now living with Beetroot in a new home.

Penny herself was given up by her previous owner who bought her as a piglet from a breeder.

Dougle & Bert Rehomed 3 October 09

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

This pair of pigs are delightful. Dougle has a long mop of hair and Bert is short haired.  They both enjoy going out on the lawn and devouring the grass. We are unsure of the age of these 2 boys but would guess at 2-3 years old.  They are in need of a good home and Dougle needs some grooming (although he doesn’t like it and squeaks at any attempt to brush his hair!!).

Tonka Rehomed October 1 09

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Tonka was rescued from an unwanted home. He suffered from a condition called anal impaction that males can often get. This means that he sometimes cannot form his pellets and needed assistance. Therefore he needed to go to a home where this condition could be monitored.

Tonka found a fabulous home with another male guinea pig for companionship.  We are so pleased that little Tonka found the life he deserved.
