We often have sheep in our care looking for a life-long home, please inquire.
All of our males sheep are castrated and all vaccinated and wormed.
Sheep can make really great pets, they are great characters and can be quite friendly, they recognise individual people even when they haven’t seen them for many months.
When considering sheep as a pet, there are a few considerations.
- Sheep are herd animals, they need to be with other sheep, whilst they can live with herds of other species such as goats and equine, they must be in their own species herd.
- If keeping with other species such as goats, consider how you will feed them as their diet is different, sheep are copper intolerant and so the hard feed of other species such as goats can be harmful to sheep.
- A high percentage of thier feed needs to be fibre such as grass and hay which they need access to 24/7 along with a source of clean water.
- Being a farm animal, to move / keep sheep, you need to register and obtain a County Parish Holding Number first and record all movements on to and off your holding.
- Sheep need shelter with dry bedding so that they can get out of the elements.
- There home needs to be secure with fencing 4ft minimum with plenty of grass s and space for them to roam about and run.
- You will need to be registered with a local farm vet for emergencies as well as routine worming and vaccinations.
- Annually they need to be sheared which can be a challenge finding someone who will come to do this form you when you have a small flock.
