We are really struggling to cope with all the animals that get called through every single day, not to mention all the needy hedgehogs that currently need our help on a daily basis.

Yet again we have had to take in 4 very frightened kittens that were dumped in a box in a shop in Eastwood. Fortunately one of our volunteers saw them as she happened to be in the shop at the time. This very sad scenario is happening more and more frequently and it is just a very sorry state of affairs that people cannot be bothered to get their animals neutered. We have now got to find the time and money to get these latest waifs and strays vaccinated, wormed, deflead, health checked and neutered. These poor kittens are not in the best of health and it may take some weeks before they will be ready. They have not been handled at all and are still very frightened of humans.

They still have blue eyes and should be with their mother. Sadly we do not know of her whereabouts and she is probably roaming around unneutered and will probably be bringing more unwanted kittens into the world.

Dwarf Lop

Vaccinated but not yet spayed

Poppy sadly came in with her sister but they had been badly fighting and both had several war wounds. Poppy has a permanent ripped ear and really didn’t like her sister at all. Poppy needs a male companion and if she is to go with a female needs to be spayed. Poppy loves to tip her litter tray as soon as it has been cleaned out! She then likes to push all the contents across the hutch, down the ramp and out into the run! she is very comical but very active. She loves to tunnel as well and has several magnificent tunnels in the garden. Poppy is a real character but still a little nervous of human contact.

These kittens were dumped at the side of the road in Watnall. A female cat sat petrified with her 3 kittens on the grass verge as cars whizzed past. What lucky kittens they are that their mother stayed with them and that someone found them all.

As a charity we do not take on cats but sadly some people choose to breed cats and then expect us to pick up the pieces when they are unable to find them homes. We currently have 2 adorable female cats and 7 kittens that are looking for a loving home.

IF YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO NEUTER YOUR PET THEN DON’T GET A PET!! That is our simple solution. So many people pick up a kitten that is ‘free to a good home’ and in a few months time forget that the cat has the ability to breed. There is absolutely no excuse to bring unwanted animals in the world. Rescue centres are brimming over with animals that are desperately looking for homes.

Unlike adverts you see saying ‘kittens for sale’ we make sure our kittens are vaccinated, wormed, deflead and combi tested for feline viruses. We also make sure that new owners neuter their pets as soon as possible (if not already carried out by us, the mother cats will be neutered by us). We do not make any money on rehoming our animals. We also carry out home checks for all of our animals to make sure they are going to responsible owners.

The problem with unwanted animals is at crisis point. HEALTHY ANIMALS ARE BEING PUT TO SLEEP EVERY SINGLE DAY because there are not enough homes for all the animals needing homes. PLEASE STOP BREEDING ANIMALS.

Back in March we took in 3 more Dartmoor ponies that were destined for slaughter. Today Henry and Jerry (also known as Splash and Bubbles) found a fabulous home. They have gone to live with an older gelding called ‘Alfie’ who had already met and befriended the boys. Their new owner has also handled and walked the Dartmoors around the village and we are so pleased with the home that they have gone to. The boys were gelded a couple of weeks ago and quickly recovered (and forgave us). They have learnt how to walk on a lead rope and have had their hooves trimmed by Hannah. We are so grateful to Hannah (a barefoot trimmer) who has worked with these ponies so much and put in so much of her time. They have come on so much since the wild little things that hurtled off the trailer and huddled frightened in a stable. They even walked the short journey to their new home on the road and were so good and well behaved.

Jimmy is an adorable little fella. He really is quite friendly and lucky to be with us. His previous owners didn’t bother with him and left him to free range throughout the neighbourhood. when questioned they said they simply didn’t want him any more and didn’t care about him! Poor little man. Lucky he didn’t get eaten by a fox. Luckily some kind people in the street brought him to us in a shopping basket. He is now looking for a friend to spend the rest of his lucky life with.

Age : 8 weeks (Approx)

This boy was one of several that were dumped at the side of a busy road, we found him (now called Willow) an other was found later by other people. The rest of the litter was never found. Unfortunately we hear far to often about people tossing out baby pet rabbits and unwanted adult rabbits into the wild, where they will certainly perish.

This boy was injured and petrified, so much so that he did not move when we found him and shaking with fear. Two weeks on, a course of anti-biotics and loads of love an attention and he’s doing well and slowly becoming tame.

Willow is the lucky one, thousands more are not so lucky.

Willow is not ready yet to go to a new home, he needs to be vaccinated and castrated in a few weeks when he’s old enough.
