Meet these two cherubs, Molly and Basil recently came too us. They are two friendly female Pygmy goats, that are with our group of 5 which also includes a large male and a pair of castrated males Pygmy’s.

Once wormed and vaccinated, they will be ready to be rehomed. If you can offer them a permanent life-long home, please get in touch. We always offer free advice to ensure you make the right decision and can offer them all the need they require.

Goats make very good pets, but there are a few critical things you need to consider;

1. Goats are herd animals and should be kept in groups of at least 2.

2. You need very strong and high fencing, at least 1.5m.

3. Goats hate rain and mud, they need good shelter, away from the elements.

4. Goats need to be wormed and vaccinated annually and their hooves trimmed every few weeks.

5. They will eat plants, trees and shrubs, beware of poisonous ones, goats can easily be poisoned.

6. Goats should never be tethered or kept on their own.

Havannah breed

2 years old

Neutered and vaccinated for myxi

Bugsy is such a lovely boy. He was so frightened when he first came into us and would hide at every opportunity. He has come on a lot since then and adores a rub of his ears. He spends so much time in a dog bed filled with hay and is a little creature of habit. He likes routine and is very tidy. When Bugsy came to us he had back dental problems and had to have dental treatment. However, after a year he has had to have no further treament but as he isn’t a great hay eater he may need further dental treament in the future.

Netherland cross breed

18 months and 5 months old

Rowan spayed, Teasel not yet spayed. Both vaccinated for myxi.

These 2 bunnies are an adorable pair. Teasel is a little digger and loves to keep herself occupied by none stop tunnelling in the lawn. They both like to snuggle up to each other and groom each other. They are a comical pair who always seem to look busy and will need lots of things to do in their new home. They would benefit from lots of room as they love to run round and jump on top of things. They both have nice temperaments and are quite confident bunnies.

Micro-pigs were all the rage a year or so ago, now the novelty has worn off, people have realised that these intelligent, clean, highly sociable animals need love and attention and if not given that attention, can soon become destructive, not to mention grow much larger than the cute adverts imply. Consequently interest in their long-term welfare is being tossed aside as quickly as the fad came.

Micro-pigs are not a recognised breed, in fact many people have been miss sold these animals, thinking that they will remain small. These so called “Tea Cup Pigs” often grow into a pig larger than the average Labrador, but many times more powerful.

The reality is that, these inter-bred animals often do grow large, even the smallest pigs if not looked after correctly, by keeping them in social groups and providing them with stimulation, can very quickly destroy your home and garden and even become nasty through frustration and boredom.

In the past week alone, we have been asked to take on 15 pigs, some of which are the so called micro-pigs. We cannot possiblyrescue them all, but these are 4 boys we have managed to rescue.

If you can offer a life-long loving home for a pair of pigs, please let us know, we are aware of several of these beautiful animals that will be euthanised if we cannot find them homes.

We have to deal with unwanted pets coming to us on an almost daily basis. We can only cope with so many and so it is very hard for us when we have to say no, far too often.

These pets are given up for many reasons, some genuine but increasingly many more are given up because the pets were bought on a whim.

Far too often the owners have become bored and have tossed their pet out, because they want a different pet or because their pet is ill and they aren’t in a position to get the animal treated or would rather spend their money on something else. Sadly it is a sign of the times that we live in a throw away society and for some, pets are an extension of this trend.

This poor chap came in in a group of four, he should weigh about a one kilo, but at 320 grams he was desperately ill and in urgent need of treatment to save his life. For the past week we have been syringe feeding him to build up his weight. He cannot eat himself due to the excessive pain, his teeth are in such poor condition, ulcers in his mouth have made it too painful for him to eat. He was literally on deaths door.

A week on and he has successfully put on 150 grams and today underwent an operation on his teeth. This little chap is a real fighter, his prospects are now looking good but we are still having to syringe feed him and he has to come with us wherever we go so that he can have the attention that he needs. He is still very, very week but is trying to eat soft food on his own. It is work like this that is so draining, not only on our emotions but also on our finances. We are giving this little chap everything so that he pulls through.
